Daughter of Hugh Dupong Scott and Elizabeth Logan
Jean was only nine years old when her Mother died and she found herself
with another set of parents, her sister Bett
and husband Emile.
As a young girl Jean attended Maissoneuve School then later Hochelaga
Convent she continued her education by taking Comtompetor Courses and
IBM Computer Courses.
Jean kept herself busy with many athletic hobbies, at the top of her
list were skating, swimming, golf and she even captured herself a Bronze
Medal for Skiing in 1949.
Jean had a dream to join the Canadian Navy in WWII to follow in the
footsteps of her Father and her two older brothers Willie
and Hugh but, she was too young. She busied
herself during the war years with school work and in the summertime from
1939 – 1944 she was a waitress at her sister Betts Hotel The Pine
Lodge in Rawdon Quebec.
Jeans career choice with Henry Birk began in April 1945 and ended in
September 1983 when after 37 years she retired.
In 1959 Jean converted to Catholicism at the church of Mary Queen of the
World Cathedral, her Godparents were Joan Elizabeth Pepin McGuigan and
Brian McGuigan.
In 1947 Jean married Raymond Patrick Deignan on September 27. Their
marriage lasted until Ray's death on June 19 1987. Ray is laid to rest
at the Ecumenical Cemetery in Rawdon Quebec.
Jean and Ray had no children of their own but, they were godparents
to a niece Beverley Ann Scott Jodoin a nephew Peter Butler great niece
Patty McGuigan Outridge and also to a family friend Sandra Russell.
JEANNIE –BABY SURVIVED THE BIG “C”
in 1983 Jean was diagnosed with Breast Cancer after extensive treatments
and radical surgery (Having one breast removed) she has been CANCER
FREE for the past 18 years.
Jean enjoys traveling and with her extended family living throughout
the world she has had the opportunity to visit Australia, New Zealand,
Pittsburgh Pa USA, British Columbia and Ontario Canada.
Although Jean enjoys most fine cuisine her favourite has to be Roast
Beef Au Jus with Yorkshire Pudding particularly at the LaSalle Hotel in
Kingston Ontario where she enjoyed many a Sunday Brunch with her sister
Margaret.
Recently being diagnosed with Chronic Bronchitis and Osteoporosis doesn’t
slow Jean down, under the direction of Lynne Pinkham Scott she is a volunteer
at the Heather Hospital , she helps with phone calls, driving, crafts,
singing, and most anything else that is asked of her.
After a long day of volunteer work I am sure you will find Jean curled
up on her couch with a wee Scotch and Water, and her most favourite Loulou
(#2) her cat.
